Having successfully segmented their consumer market, this leading supplier of private medical insurance wanted our help in doing the same for their business-to-business market. Their historic targeting methods, based on SIC code, size of business and number of registrations, had failed to deliver the required results.

Our fresh solution was to conduct initial in-depth interviews with decision-makers to explore their motivations, needs and behaviours and to formulate segment hypotheses. We followed this with a quantitative study based on telephone interviews with 1000 senior decision-makers. Five segments were identified on an ‘employer/employee centricity’ basis, equipping our client to tailor new products and marketing strategies to accurately meet each segment’s specific needs.
